- Priority: is to figure out the questions we want/need to answer and what data is required to achieve that.
- Challenges : Capturing data can be easy, figuring out the questions that need to be answered is harder.
- Ensuring we do not create an undue burden on ourselves or, more importantly our beneficiaries simply to capture data.
- Time availability and skill set are also limiting factors.
- Priorities: I’ve just finished a sheaf of needs analysis reports (happy to share if anyone’s interested, as not yet published on website), and want to collect feedback from our team on (whether and) how they’re used by different audiences and how they might be improved upon.
- Also, (this is part priority, part challenge) planning a piece of highly strategic qualitative work, drawing on case studies, but presenting ‘successful models’ drawn from this data. Will be interested to see how this is received by an NHS/county council audience used to looking at numbers…

They have the possiblity of being a GDPR Compliant data bank to be used by a lot of community foundations. There are some very skilled orgs across the UK that are willing to contribute. Massive amounts of potential.

Some Community Foundations use SalesForce well, others do not - it’s uneven and this has an impact on being able to use it.

We always know what the funders want to know.
Reporting element of Salesforce is overly turgid.
Need to work out some systemic elements
Is Salesforce the right tool? Is it working?
There are variations - #iwill -
They could use a ‘principles of data gathering’ - that we understand why we are gathering data, what are the methodologies? There is an agreement at the beginning.
You need really good case studies.
You need to communicate what can go wrong if data isnot collected properly.
Couldn’t understand the why the data was being collected?
There are issues with Salesforce -
They can’t see everything that CF’s have attributed to programmes?
Andy has asked Hyphenate about how much a training costs - they are interested in joining up with other CF’s training.
Lots of monitoring that hasn’t been submitted to #iwill and it’s overdue for over a year.
A concern that if the data within Salesforce works too well, then the knowledge that is contained within the CF gets overlooked.
Data is a key thing, and impact is a key thing - but they are only one element of grantmaking.
Grantees can feel their real knowledge/experience is overlooked when you just focus on the impact.
Just capturing data is for our end.
Some funders, like Hewlett, are asking grantees just do blog posts rather than a narrative report.
The question on ‘how do we present qualitative data?’ It will remain.
