November 23rd Online Discussion Notes

This was a part two of https://forum.threesixtygiving.org/t/using-external-datasets-in-community-foundations/267.

Who was there: Andy, Tom & Dirk

Andy talked about how critical mapping is, particularly for drawing in trustees. He shared a map he was working on: https://somersetcf.carto.com/builder/d8c99668-d6d2-4cc0-855d-8ee9b6d44337/embed - and we talked about how it makes it look like there are areas of deprivation but it isn’t showing population, so you can’t get a real picture of that. This then led to further discussion about various different datasets around indicators and what they really mean, e.g. local insights showing if more than four vehicles are owned and what that actually means, because it can include farm vehicles.

Tom reported back on some recent conferences he went to, including Data4Good (and GoodTech) and has promised to share notes here, soon.
